As Kate Middleton continues her tour of the UK to promote her survey on children's early years, today saw her arrive at Ark Open Farm near Belfast. Having been one of the only guests to follow the BAFTAs sustainability dress code, the Duchess once again proved she's the master of wardrobe recycling – this time in a pair of Penelope Chilvers boots and a khaki Barbour jacket.
While the photographs of Kate having to look enthused while stroking a llamaare nothing short of alarming, I'm more interested in her jacket. There's a reason why both she and Meghan Markle have both worn khaki jackets for official engagements – they're so versatile. Not only do they go with almost everything, they also have the ability to make a casual outfit look more pulled together – ideal if you're a Duchess, or just a normal person trying to make jeans look smarter.
They're also, I'm pleased to tell you, an excellent antidote to the low temperatures we're currently experiencing. Layer over polo necks and under big coats, for example, to give yourself an extra layer without suffocating in knitwear. Then, when it's warmer (imagine!), your khaki jacket will be the only outer layer you need and you'll wonder why you ever bought 17 coats in February (for your future self, you did that because it's SO cold).
Not for the first time and certainly not for the last, either, let the Duchess of Cambridge inspire you to make a truly great purchase – one which will last for years (and years).
