When it comes to fashion, Instagram has been responsible for so many individual pieces and trends quickly becoming A Thing. From Topshop's midi slip skirts to Ganni dresses galore, it can often feel like you're only just discovering something before it's sold out – never to grace the hangers in your wardrobe. This is why we've decided to bring you the Almost Famous – the trends, items and one-offs that all the coolest girls are wearing, before they've managed to go viral and, subsequently, disappear from reach. This week's nascent star? It comes courtesy of John Lewis & Partners.

The high street brand re-launched last year, adding both to its name and its in-house offering. The eponymous clothing label now offers an array of bright, well-made pieces designed to fit seamlessly into any wardrobe. And it seems one item in particular from the new season collection has piqued the interest of many an influencer: the yellow, belted trench coat with blouson sleeves.

Perhaps it's due to the timing. Spring is, supposedly, upon us and yet the weather certainly still necessitates a coat of some kind. A trench is always a good option at this time of year, and with its sunny shade and stylish design details, JL's has longevity. Given the reputation of British summers, you may be needing it well into August.

Wear open over white denim with trainers or belt it over midi dresses and ankle boots – either way, it's one of those elusive items that is easy to wear, comfortable and yet makes any outfit endlessly more interesting. If you're not used to wearing such a vivid colour, it also comes in blue, as seen recently on former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman. Just be quick – it's almost famous, after all.
