You don’t need an emergency overdraft extension to get a banging wardrobe this summer. Seriously. The high street is full of delights at the moment, delights that, crucially, don’t cost the earth and do mean you can afford to book those flights/pay off that credit card/get an Uber home on Saturday night without Sunday morning dread setting in. These are the four luxe trends to buy for less.
Clean-Line Linen
Linen used to get a bad rap for being rumpled and generally a bit rubbish. Not any more. Loewe and Roksanda showed striped, and effortlessly chic, summer coats made out of the fabric for spring. Luckily, the high street isn’t far behind. Isn’t Arket’s primrose-coloured short suit perfect for smart summer garden party? And don’t you just want to fling COS’s pistachio-green coat over blossom-flecked frocks?
Summer Suede
It might surprise you to learn that suede is something that it’s easy to ‘fake’ on a high street budget. All you have to do is seek out shades that tip towards the more neutral end of the spectrum - think mustard, terracotta and forest-green - and keep the silhouettes pleasingly simple.
Denim with Difference
Denim is one of the things the high street does best, but this season you want to look for elevated design details. A wonky waistband, contrast topstitching or a puffed sleeve will make those jeans, dresses and blouses look anything but your basic true blues.
Utility
Utilitywear is a perennial favourite on the catwalks - boilersuits at Stella McCartney, short-sleeved shackets at Tory Burch - but the high street is marching to the same beat this season. The ultimate is LF Markey’s black jumpsuit with capacious pockets and contrast stitching
