Trying to avoid the old adage from The Devil Wears Prada__, it's fair to say that some floral prints for spring can feel new and interesting. Case in point: H&M's brand new Wildflower collection, which is so pretty that it's proving quite difficult to resist.
Just in time for our re-entry into some sort of social life, the Wildflower capsule collection isn't just another array of flowery dresses – rather, each piece features hand-painted florals designed by Abigail Morris, Kavita Ravaliya, Holly Watts and Florentin Bodet, H&M's in-house print designers. 'So many of us have felt the overwhelming desire to be outside, to reconnect with nature and feel a little bit of calm amongst the chaos,' said Morris who, along with her colleagues, picked her favourite wildflowers on which the entire collection is based.
Ravaliya said: 'The meadow collection has been a true representation of teamwork, reconnecting with nature and artistry. It has been a fantastic opportunity for us designers to simply slow down, be outside and appreciate nature's beauty.'
The clothes are made from either 100% organic cotton, or a blend with linen, with H&M keen to hint at the need to preserve handicrafts, as well as trying to promote a more sustainable future. There are balloon-sleeved dresses with pretty bow-backs, flared skirts with matching bandeau tops, smocked midis, off-the-shoulder sundresses, a playsuit, bucket hat and satin scarf. It's the sartorial equivalent of a fresh start for the season, which is very welcome indeed after such a long and difficult winter.
Prices start at just£9.99 for the bandeau tops, scarf and hat, going up to £39.99 for one of the long dresses. While it's certainly an affordable collection, these are pieces to keep in your wardrobe for years to come. The sundresses can easily be layered over blouses and knits in colder months, for example, giving them new life even when spring is long gone.
