For most of us, wearing ‘real’ clothes feels something of a distant memory. The struggle of a smart casual dress code or the joy of getting dressed up for a big night out have been replaced by loungewear, PJs or just anything that's comfortable enough for another night on the sofa.
But as lockdown eases and we slowly start to pick up elements of ‘normal’ life, I’m saying it’s time to get excited about clothes again. Playful dresses that haven’t seen the light of day since March or shoes you shopped for just before the restrictions hit have been gathering dust, longing to be worn. Now, as outings are only happening when essential. It’s time to give life back into your wardrobe and dress for every outing in your Sunday best.
Shopping throughout this period has created two divided camps, and retailers have understandably been reserved when it comes to dropping new collections. In the past couple of days however, the new-in sections of leading high street stores have started to glimmer with clothes that are worth talking about.
First up is Jigsaw, whose linen oversized suits are some of the best I've seen and will live in your wardrobe for decades to come. The stripe Jute bag is the perfect accessory for city or seaside (when that time comes) and as for the sandals – they're all brilliant.
It's no secret that H&M has some of the summer's best dresses at the moment, with a lot of them under £50. And over at Zara, the lime linen shorts, embroidered blouses and summer coats are the sorts of pieces you can't wait to wear.
