George Clooney was honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes, and gave a beautiful and powerful speech where he touched on the Paris attacks, his wife Amal and the Sony hack.
George, who had a Je Suis Charlie badge pinned to his Armani wedding tux, spoke of Sunday's free speech march in Paris following the attacks in the French capital. He closed his speech by saying: "Today was an extraordinary day, there were millions of people who marched not just in Paris but around the world, and they were Christians and Jews and Muslims, they were leaders of countries all over the world and they didn’t march in protest. They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear. So Je suis Charlie."
He also melted women's hearts everywhere when he spoke of his love for Amal. He said: “I’ve had a pretty good year myself. Listen: It’s a humbling thing when you find someone to love—even better when you’ve been waiting your whole life. And when your whole life is 53 years, Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband.”
George being George, he also got some excellent jokes in there. He said: “It’s always fun to come here and catch up with old friends and, now that we’ve seen that everyone’s been hacked, it’s also a good chance for us to meet face-to-face and apologize for all the snarky things we’ve said about each other.”
