Think classics with a twist.

The Gap renaissance might already be underway - Timothee Chalamet's a fan so, really, need we say more? - but tomorrow marks yet another milestone: the much-hyped launch of GapStudio.

For those who missed the memo, GapStudio is the first collection designed by the brand's new executive vice president and creative director Zac Posen, a man who needs no introduction, and will be dropping online, as well as in store on Oxford Street, on 8 April.

With his high-fashion pedigree, Posen immediately set to work on creating red-carpet moments with his designs for Gap (see, Timmy, Cynthia Erivo and Anne Hathaway, whose deconstructed shirt dress was released after she wore it and promptly flew off the shelves). He's also pioneered a 'creative studio' that will continue to push the boundaries of what a high street retailer can really deliver since joining the brand in 2024.

'GapStudio is where craftsmanship, creativity and culture come together,' says Posen, adding: 'GapStudio Collection 01 reflects that vision — blending tailoring with innovative denim treatments that sculpt and refine the fabric in new ways. This is just the beginning.'

There's nothing ordinary about the campaign, which credits a list of industry dynamos, from photographer Mario Sorrenti, to stylist Alastair McKimm, via its supermodel faces (Alex Consani, Imaan Hammam and Anok Yai).

The collection elevates the signature textiles of Gap - denim is obviously a highlight - by combining each with the drape, tailoring and construction that are hallmarks of Posen. Anne Hathaway's Poplin Maxi Shirtdress, which sold out upon its limited release last spring, is back in two new colours for spring 2025 (a chic taupe and cute polka dot). There's also the most elegant trench coat you can imagine, with a subtly pleated reverse that genuinely means it stands out from the sea of other, inferior versions of the classic (Gabriella Karefa-Johnson has already taken it for a spin).

For stans of the original Gap - the one that sold logoed hoodies, that viral striped jumper and the best affordable jeans in the business - it's a whole new world, which is why we've taken the time to try on some of the key pieces.
