If you’ve never been able to get on board with bangs, you might just change your mind this autumn. Fringing cropped up again and again at Milan Fashion Week and, unlike the haircut, is one trend that universally flatters.
Bottega Veneta’s fuzz-covered coats had tentacle-like hems that swept the catwalk. Prada’s schoolgirl skirts, worn with neckties and sweatervests, were given a sexy flavour with thigh-slit skirts, while Boss’s lavender dream of a dress came with fringe that swished from the shoulders to the ankles.
Gabriela Hearst, one of New York Fashion Week's most exciting labels in the sphere of sustainability, also championed fringing with her 100% virgin cashmere pieces that had a distinct Seventies flavour.
This is one trend that you don’t have to save until autumn. Raey’s tiered and fringed skirt, in either oyster pink or black, demands to be taken dancing now, but could also be worn with a polo jumper and Mary-Jane pumps. The Kooples has a checked jacket with fringed pockets that feels very off-duty Kaia Gerber, while H&M’s cream and tweed blazer is an even more subtle take. Who knows, maybe you’ll even be tempted to go for the chop.
