Do you remember the fabulous news that Polo Ralph Lauren had opened its Polo flagship store on Regent Street? Then came even more superb news that the store will feature a Polo Customisation Shop so that you can put your personal stamp on the iconic brand. Well, now we’re even more eager to make another trip or two to the store, with the revelation that the brand has launched a new personal styling service at the shop- the Polo Styling Suite!
We at Grazia believe a personal stylist should check all of the fashion boxes. A great one has a wide knowledge of both upcoming trends and timeless style, and most importantly, they know exactly what works for you. They hone in on what inspires you and makes you feel confident, and they make it their mission to give you the tools you need to let your unique style shine through.
So, to celebrate the launch of the Polo Personal Styling service at the Regent Street store, we’ve taken it taken it upon ourselves to celebrate five of the coolest personal stylists who we wish would style us…
Lady Starlight- personal stylist to Lady Gaga
Lady Starlight was one of Lady Gaga's first friends and collaborators when she started to become known in the early noughties in the downtown New York scene. She’s worked with Lady Gaga on the Monster Ball Tour, The Born This Way Ball Tour and was the brains behind some of the pop star’s most famous futuristic space looks and elaborate onstage costumes. What makes Lady Starlight so great, is how stylishly daring she is and how immersed and involved she was with Lady Gaga’s brand and image from very early on.
Angela Kelly- personal stylist to the Queen
Angela has been the Queen’s PA and senior dresser since 2002 and she’s now in charge of a team of four dressers for HM. So what makes Angela so great at what she does? Could it be her elegant taste, her practicality or her colour co-ordinating? Or maybe it’s her impeccable organisation to ensure there are no clashes, crumples or repeats? No- it’s her personal touch, as she knows exactly what will be in HM’s taste. Case and point: she has been known to sew weights into HM’s hemlines to stop them being lifted by the wind. After all, when it comes to dressing the most important royal, modesty is key.
William Baker- (occasional) personal stylist to Kylie Minogue
William has been praised for strengthening Kylie Minogue’s career by putting her in those iconic gold hotpants for her Spinning Around music video, earning the Aussie star a global sex-symbol status. The duo have been friends for 20 years, and worked together on the popstar’s Showgirl Tour back in the 90s. Kylie has long credited William for helping create many of her iconic looks and for styling her most successful tours, while she’s also dotingly referred to him as her “gay husband.” William’s greatest strength? His ability to pick out a diamond in the rough. Seriously though- those gold hot pants were bought for 50 pence at a market!
Natasha Archer- personal stylist to Kate Middleton
At only 30, Natasha is a key member of the Duchess of Cambridge’s A-team. She started out as a PA for Kate before making a huge name for herself in the fashion world by rising up to become her personal stylist. What makes her so great? Her commitment! Natasha shops A LOT for Kate online, (even from Asos and Topshop,) and has hundreds of pieces brought in from all over the place for Kate to try on. Her style is majorly on point, dressing the Duchess in flawless looks from Lela Rose to Jenny Peckham to L.K. Bennett.
B Akerlund- personal stylist to Madonna
B Akerlund’s style is seriously eccentric, so much so that the Swedish-born stylist prefers to be known as a fashion activist. She’s worked with Madonna for over and decade, with one of her greatest accomplishments being transforming the star into an Egyptian Queen in bespoke Givenchy Haute Couture for the 2012 American Super Bowl. She’s been responsible for some of the most iconic looks in music videos and on magazine covers, including in Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” Britney Spears’ “Work Bitch,” and Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts.” Her greatest strength? Her sharp eye for bling.
Ok, so us mere mortals/non-celebs can’t justify paying to have a personal stylist at our beck and call, (probably because we’re not jetting around the world with millions of eyes on our every move.) But, the reality is you can afford a personal stylist experience, to make sure your most beloved investment pieces are worth your while and last the distance. Dedicated Polo Stylists work on a bespoke offering based on your specific needs, and the service is completely free! You can go online and craft your preferences before popping into the store. Then, a Polo Stylist, will show you to the beautiful Polo Styling Suite where several looks and options will be waiting based on the info you gave online. It can’t get any more personal than that!
