Every year, Time magazine reveals it’s 100 most influential people in the world. The list, which includes a range of recognizable faces, spans from famous celebrities all the way to world leaders. This year,* Harry Potter* actress and equal rights campaigner Emma Watson has made the cut, amongst the likes of Taylor Swift, Vladimir Putin and Christopher Nolan.
Although she may be wedged in between individuals twice her age and life experience, it’s of little surprise that the 25 year-old has been featured in the list. After starring in one of the most famous film series ever, Emma went on to become a modern feminist icon, campaigning for equal rights and landing a role at the UN. Journalist and author Jill Abramson said that Hermoine Granger “would doubtless approve of her HeForShe campaign” and commended the actress’ “vigorous embrace of feminism”.
Also on the list was reality star Kim Kardashian, who was praised by American TV host Martha Stewart for being “a media phenomenon” and “beautiful in an exotic, totally exaggerated way.” Martha went on to say that Kim “exudes energy, sexuality, drama, determination and happiness” who’s siblings have “expanded the very definition of family.”
This year, the magazine created five separate covers featuring Kanye West, Bradley Cooper, judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, ballet dancer Misty Copeland and journalist Jorge Ramos. CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk explored Kanye’s success, calling him a “pop-culture juggernaut” who has an “incredible tenacity”.
