“It’s not that I’m rebelling. It’s that I’m just trying to find another way.” – Edie Sedgwick, April 20, 1943 – November 16, 1971

Who was Edie Sedgwick?

Known for her gamine beauty and wide-eyed charm, Edie Sedgwick (born Edith Minturn Sedgwick) was one of the most magical It Girls of all time.

Her short life was not always a happy one; the actor-model suffered with drug addictions and repeated bouts of anorexia, but her star has continued to shine way beyond her 30 years, and far, far longer than the 15 minutes of fame promised by the artist Andy Warhol, with whom Edie spent much of her time in the spotlight.

In 1964 Edie moved to New York and became part of Warhol's The Factory set, starring in a host of his avante-garde films. It was here that she chopped off her long brown hair and dyed her pixie crop platinum blonde. This was to become a key part of her signature style. And what a style it was...

Edie embodied the Swinging Sixties, layering print upon print and adorning her looks with lavish jewellery and fur coats.

She wore ballet leotards and T-shirts for her dance training and teamed them with '60s leopard print coats – a trend that spread like wildfire.

“I'll have to put more earrings on. I bet that someone could analyse me and tell my condition by my earrings.” – Edie Sedgwick.

Edie's whimsical approach to fashion is what made her so charming, and is what designers and stylists have been mimicing ever since her death in 1971.
