Last week, I became a new woman. I was suddenly in my spring era, ready to wear a selection of exciting new outfits befitting of our sunny, warm (!) climate. I was giddy, buying bottles of rosé to share with friends and freeing my feet of tights and boots. One of the most exciting moments came when I realised I could wear my new shoes which, rather than being impractical or inappropriate, were entirely perfect for the spring weather we were all enjoying. Said shoes are from Dune, they're a chic woven ballet flat and I am nothing short of obsessed by them.

Let me tell you this: the photographs of them on Dune's website don't do them justice. They fail to convey the perfect nature of the shape, which is not too square, nor too round. Mine are brown, but there are four other shades available, running the spectrum from pale pink to gold metallic. They're incredibly comfortable, too. I walked for an hour and a half (I know) the other day in them and my feet – miraculously – felt fine by the time I arrived at home. And let me tell you, I am not known for selecting comfortable shoes at the best of times, so this felt miraculous.

It seems I am in good company. In New York last week, Katie Holmes – famous for perpetually looking nice on the streets of NYC – wore the very same shoes as she, I don't know, ran errands? Whatever she was doing, she looked excellent in an oversized grey jumper, jeans and my (yes, my) Dune shoes. As she was clearly not enjoying the exotic climes of the UK, she even added a pair of socks. Had you asked me hypothetically if socks would look acceptable with these flats, I would have said absolutely not, but I am happy to be proven wrong by Holmes. In fact, now that spring is over and it feels like the temperature is -1, I, too, am employing socks to ensure I can continue wearing my Dune shoes without getting frostbite.

As ballet flats continue to enjoy stellar success at the moment, I have to say this is one of the best high street pairs I've found. If the good weather ever does return (please, God, say it's returning), I can promise you that you'll wear these shoes more than you'll wear trainers this spring. And summer, for that matter.
