Our home spaces have become more important than ever in the last year. For a lot of us, this has meant combining every day living space with working from home, homeschooling and just generally trying to come to terms with lockdown restrictions. Whatever your space might look like you may feel that, after a year of Covid-19 restrictions keeping us at home most of the time, a few updates here and there wouldn't go amiss. Good news, then, that Diane von Furstenberg has designed an interiors collection for high street behemoth H&M.
Launching today, the 31-piece collection is a riot of colour and print – just as you would expect from DVF. Brilliant blankets, storage boxes, scented candles, swirl-print vases, espresso cups, trays, prints to put on your wall and small plates all feature. There's even a monochrome print robe in which to waft around the house, which one can only imagine is how DVF herself moves about her own home.
In a statement, the designer said: 'The prints in this collaboration are very iconic. The ‘Diane’ print I created 20 years ago when I started the company, while the lips print comes from the painting Andy Warhol did of me. Personally, I love animal prints – zebra is very DVF – and also vibrant orange and pinks, but monochrome black and white is very chic, too. The whole collection is fabulous, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.' Prices start at £17.99 for the wall prints, going up to £119.99 for the wool blankets and the robe.
We've all been staring at the same four walls for many months now, so DVF's vivid use of colour and pattern is really just the tonic we all need – particularly as of May 17 (hopefully) we can start welcoming a few friends and family back into our homes.
The campaign which accompanies this new range was, of course, shot in DVF's own home – and styled by her, no less. The candles even feature her favourite scent, amber, suggesting that not only will our homes look like DVF's house thanks to this collection, they'll smell like it too.
'When people say 'who do you design for?' I say I design for the woman in charge,' says DVF in a promotional video for the collection. There's also a mantra, of sorts, which is stamped across blankets and cushions in the range. It's the message DVF wants to communicate to us all. 'Own it.'
