With sub zero temperatures on the streets of the UK, a tasty slice of Scandi and Nordic style couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Thanks to Copenhagen and Stockholm’s fashion weeks, the past few days have provided more than a vigorous sartorial de-freezer for those of us in worn-out tights and black coats. With cosy handfuls of chunky knitwear, minimalist tailoring and slouchy outerwear, a girl could tackle winter in decent form if she were to take note. And that’s because these runways provide less of the fantasy wardrobe (read: Couture) and more about reality; clothes designed by Danes and Swedes are inherently wearable to the very end. But don’t mistake such retail potential for a lack of creativity – there’s still much to be found from the Scandi and Danish cool crews.
The 1970s vibes that we have seen so strongly on the catwalks of Spring/Summer 2015 across New York, London, Paris and Milan, are very much present and correct in both Copenhagen and Stockholm - culottes, chubby coats, platform heels, flares, swathes of brown mixed with Panton's predicted colour-of-the-year, Marsala. Layering - a Nordic talent for sure - is also key in the styling throughout: long-line blouses with equally far-reaching cardies, piled ontop of baggy trousers, with chunky shoes and a scarf for a final flourish or belted big coats, fastened tight over a pair of extra-lengthy side-split-cut skinny trousers that peek over shoes. It's even these subtle details that can provide a style switch up with a Scandi twist.
In the gallery above are our favourite looks we’d like to buy now. If only the clothes weren’t from the Autumn/Winter 2015 collections….
