If, like us, you have trouble imagining a life without NARS makeup- think the legendary Orgasm blush or the ultimate nude Dolce Vita lipstick- then you might be a little surprised to learn that the cult beauty brand is only 19 years old. You might also be surprised then, to hear that the face of the brand’s latest campaign isn't some fresh faced youth but 68-year-old British actress Charlotte Rampling. Way to go, Ms Rampling! The actress' venture with NARS is yet further proof of the industry's trend to sign elder yet more iconic faces instead of younger models, and comes hot on the heels of the unveiling of 64-year-old actress Jessica Lange as the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.

Beauty legend Francois Nars is a known cinephile, often referencing movies in his collections and product names so the unveiling of Rampling as the face of the new campaign seems like a natural fit. What’s more, the signing aligns the beauty brand with a face that’s an institution instead of a newbie, which is a pretty perfect way to celebrate NARS’ 20th anniversary, taking place in September.

Us beauty girls were seriously wowed when pics from the new campaign landed on our desk this morning- with her mysteriously blue eyes and gamine features, the 68-year-old actress is every bit as gorgeous as we remember- and Nars himself agrees: “Charlotte’s ability to transform is unparalleled,” he told WWD. “Whether captured in pieces of artwork, through the lens of a magazine photographer or on the big screen, she has an amazing power to encompass a character.”
