The Celine Phantom is another one of Phoebe Philo’s genius creations. Launched in 2010 as part of the Luggage Tote collection, its oversized silhouette was designed to be as practical as it was elegant. Winged, wide, and minimal, the bag shot to fame almost overnight. Today, this classic shape is instantly recognisable as ‘old Céline’ and still commands attention in any room it enters.

Part of the bag’s legacy lies in its early 2010s celebrity run: it was papped on Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato, and Rihanna, often styled with the skinniest jeggings imaginable (thankfully, we’ve moved on).

Fast forward to 2025, now called ’New Luggage’ has been reissued for September as part of Michael Rider’s debut collection as the brand’s new creative director. The latest version is just as oversized - if not more - with a shorter strap and a zip that cleverly resembles a smiley face. The runway gave us versions in rich brown and blue, but we’re hoping to see even more colours roll out when it eventually hits the shop floors. Yesterday in New York, A$AP Rocky was seen swinging the new iteration of the bag, styling it with a tan double breasted suit teamed with blue jeans.

This current wave of nostalgia is a key driver behind many of fashion’s most exciting comebacks, offering a kind of escape from the relentless churn of trend cycles. It’s no surprise then that By Rotation has reported a 100% increase in Celine searches over the past three months.
