It's not one for a job interview, hot date or black tie gala, but if you want to channel the 'girl who waits at the bus stop reading Plato' look, the canvas bag is for you.
Favoured mostly for it's ability to hold a veritable ton of your everyday crap (err, we mean essentials) the canvas bag is what we reach for when we need to transport laptop, change of clothes and kitchen sink all at once.
We wouldn't call it stylish, exactly, but after only a few uses, it immediately becomes an old friend. Best of all, many of them are machine washable, which is useful if yours becomes a little too 'old friend-y' – you know, brushed with bronzer from that time the compact exploded, or graffitied in ink from when that dastardly pen decided to veto its lid...
There are some smart designer options to choose from this spring, but to be honest, cheap can be really be cheerful (in some cases, amusingly so).
