Bum bags, fanny packs, 'belt bags', call them what you will, the pouch that ties around your waist and rests below your middle used to be the remit of tourists on holiday in European cities.

That was until the music festival made a comeback in the early noughties, and festival-goers realised what a useful piece of kit it was – pouch for lipstick, pocket for money, hands-free, ta-daa!

It was Gucci's fanny pack, as worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Season 4 of Sex and the City back in 2001, however, that gave the accessory some much-needed fashion credentials.

Nine years on and the catwalk revived it once again. Louis Vuitton sent a bumbag down their SS10 runway, and Hermes put out their fantastic leather 'Kelly Bandeau'.

Then again the following year, former creative director of Diane von Furstenberg, Yvan Mispelaere, designed a series of belted satchels. Yes, he named them 'hands-free bags' but we all knew them to be bum bags really...

On sale today, Gucci has just brought out their Dionysus GG motif-ed 'belt' bag, whilst Burberry have crafted one too, in textured leather. And let's not forget the couture number Bella Hadid sported for Chanel SS16...

Whether its high fashion or high street, these bags are for everybody.
