Since our Blake Lively crush began back in 2008, we've kept a devoted vigil for her every sartorial swish. Lively may have come into our lives thanks to her role as Serena van der Woodsen onGossip Girl, but today the actress has totted up even more style accolades than the Upper East Side 'It' girl.
Her style status was solidified when Karl Lagerfeld photographed the actor for his Chanel Mademoiselle bag campaign way back in March 2011. Cue Lively being seen in little other than Chanel for her every red carpet turn. Not too shabby.
Next up came a collaboration with Gucci. Frida Giannini chose Lively to be the face of the Gucci Premiere fragrance ‘because she is a girl of extraordinary beauty and she’s a girl who loves fashion. She has great taste in clothes.’ Well, there's no denying that. Lively has confessed to channelling Marilyn Monroe on the red carpet and it's certainly true that she favours an old Hollywood glamour for a lot of her public appearances.
But there's one man she does turn to - for footwear advice, at least. ‘When I’m going to an event, I’ll send Christian [Louboutin] a picture of my outfit and say, "What shoes do you think I should wear with this?"' she has said. The pair became pals after their first meeting on a fashion shoot for US Vogue in Paris with the shoe guru ceementing their relationship by naming a pair of his heels ‘The Blake’. We're not jealous at all.
So, with such top-notch designers on speed dial, we put our bets on either Lagerfeld or Giannini as the designer responsible for Lively's wedding dress in 2012, when she walked up the aisle to her Green Lantern co-star Ryan Renyolds. But she surprised us all by turning to the whimiscal designs of Marchesa's Georgina Chapman, who created a custom gown for Lively. What didn't surprise us is that the 25-year-old bride was very hands-on with designing her wedding dress. Lively famously breaks with Hollywood tradition by opting out of hiring a stylist, and it seems she’s doing pretty well without one.
While her on-screen alter-ego Serena van der Woodsen merely ate her lunch on the steps of the Met Museum, Lively is a regular attendee of the annual Met Ball, and has called upon some of the world’s most coveted brands to dress her for the occasion.
Then, there's Lively's maternity style. The actress set the bar high while expecting her first daughter, James, in 2014, and has continued to prove that mum-to-be dressing isn’t all about floaty kaftans and elasticated waistbands while pregnant with her second and third children. We’re talking Disney-worthy ballgowns, dramatic cut-outs and delicate beaded embellishments.
