Question: is anyone not wearing a trouser suit? When it comes to the A-list, the answer is a resounding no, with four examples of power tailoring in the last 48 hours. At the luncheon and screening of Netflix's The Lost Daughter, two of its stars turned up in similarly swish trouser suits.
First up, Maggie Gyllenhaal, who looked sublime wearing a wide-legged suit in the most appealing shade of periwinkle. Next to her, Dakota Johnson, who stuck to her guns in Gucci (see also, Gwyneth Paltrow at the brand's Love Parade). Her suit, in contrast to Gyllenhaal's, was a slightly more slim-fit style on the bottom and oversized on the top. Paired with loafers, it proved that a trouser suit doesn't have to look buttoned-up or boring.
Yesterday, Phoebe Dynevor wore a sold-out pink suit from Victoria Beckham, the queen of polish. Accessorising with a simple chain-link necklace and pointed black pumps, this was a masterclass in how to do smart without looking square.
Last, Emily Ratajkowski, who proved that she's no slouch in the layering department. The actor wore her caramel-coloured tailoring with a burgundy polo neck and a ticker-striped shirt that she left unbuttoned, providing a simple but effective solution to fluctuating temperatures at this time of year.
If you're new to the tailoring game, beige is always a good starting point for a trouser suit. & Other Stories' version, which actually comes as a three-piece suit with a waistcoat, is the perfect foundation on which to have some fun, either with nothing underneath for after-hours or with a layering configuration worthy of Ratajkowski. All in all, there's never been a better time to be suited and booted.
