Can You Use Fashion Rental Platforms When You’re A Size 14 And Above?

In-between sizes and frustrated at the lack of options beyond a size 12, Lillian Sesiguzel set out to discover which rental platforms are actually catering to all women's needs...

I'm that woman who is constantly in-between sizes. Sometimes a UK14 will fit me perfectly, but more often than not I will favour a UK16 for the extra room. That's why rental platforms accommodating all shapes by offering a broader size range is important to me.

When I first looked into renting clothing a few years ago, it's safe to say I didn't feel very welcome to the party and quickly abandoned the idea. The sizing options were scarce, lots of UK6-10 and a couple of UK12 dresses, but as for anything beyond that, it didn't exist.

Only recently have I given rental platforms a real go, for the first time, only to be pleasantly surprised that six companies in particular are speaking to a wider audience that includes me.

By Rotation is one of my favourites. It's the first and only peer-to-peer fashion rental app, with a fashion-fuelled community vibe (I've even spoken to a lender who lives down the road from me without releasing).

The brand, founded by Eshita Kabra-Davies, is focused on size inclusivity, with on-trend clothing up to a UK20. There's also plenty of styles that cater to petite, tall and pregnant women, too.

The best feature is being able to speak with the lender directly. I rented a Ganni dress not so long ago and was worried that it wouldn't fit, but after a quick conversation I was able to retrieve some more information on the dress and rented it the next day.

Hirestreet is another platform that offers clothing up to a size UK18. The brand is conscious of building a community and empowering women, which is echoed in its broader range of sizes.

There's plenty to choose from, but it's refreshing to see that the site isn't oversaturated with dresses. I hired five outfits just before I went on holiday, which included a co-ord and a jumpsuit. It felt like I was packing a whole new wardrobe – but in a more sustainable manner.

There's plenty more to discover below, including some of my favourite picks from each platform. There's no need for anyone to feel excluded by fashion and, despite my initial concerns, I'm so happy to have found rental platforms which work for me. Given that the average UK size is a 16, it doesn't make any sense for businesses to only provide clothes up to a UK12. Thank goodness there (finally) exists those with more sense.
