This year, jewellery has played a starring role in our wardrobes. From Zoom-friendly earrings to nostalgic beaded necklaces, the once humble accessory that may have once been more of an afterthought has become the scene-stealing aspect of our WFH wardrobes. We don’t know about you but we’re not about to let that slip, especially not with the new season chipping at our heels.
What we have learned from the new season ahead is that it’s not about ticking off countless trends in the form of accessories. Instead, the key players for jewellery this season are more considered and – most importantly – are joy-inducing to say the least.
Take fashion's preoccupation with all things nostalgic, for instance. From cute drop earrings to rainbow hued beads and happy charms, these treasures are certain to appeal to your inner child. They’re youthful, fun and will look great paired with more classic items in your wardrobe, like a crisp white shirt or tailored jacket.
Art-inspired jewellery has become somewhat timeless. Look for bauble earrings that look like paint dabs, primary colours and interesting shapes that could be straight out of a Henri Matisse painting. You can class this as the trend for anti-wallflowers – the bigger and bolder the pieces, the better. As a general rule when shopping, if it’s something your art teacher would wear, you’ve nailed it.
Then there's the new generation of pearls. Anything but stuffy, pretty pearls modernised with gold accents are adorning everything from earrings, necklaces and hair accessories.
Last but by no means least, gold in all its guises is still big news. Whether bold and thick or delicate and refined, this precious metal won’t be losing its appeal anytime soon.
