After all the fasting during Ramadan, the countdown to Eid al-Fitr begins. Eid al-Fitr (festival of breaking the fast) is a Muslim festival marking the end of the fasting period of Ramadan. It is dependent on the sighting of the new moon, so the date varies every year. Lasting for up to three days, millions of Muslims all over the world will spend the day eating the most delicious traditional meals, dressing up in their finest clothes and visiting loved ones.
Many Muslims will often start their day with a visit to the mosque for morning prayers and will wish each other 'Eid Mubarak' which translates to ‘have a blessed Eid’. Food is a huge part of Eid celebrations; I can’t help but feel excited about the sheer delight of eating decadent sweet rice accompanied with the exotic tastes of masala chai.
When Is Eid 2023?
This year, Eid is expected to be celebrated on Friday, 21st April or on Saturday, 22nd of April 2023. However, the exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, 1444, the 10th month of the Islamic Calendar.
