Get ready for a frock feast, as this morning we're waking you up to over 80 red carpet looks from the 2014 Met Ball. This year we were certain that the steps would be awash with pastel ball gowns and top hats, as the theme was 'White Tie and Decorations' to tie in with the exhibition which honours 50s designer Charles James. We had our money on satin gloves and sashes in a rainbow of Laduree shades. Turns out we were oh so wrong.

Co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the only ones to follow the dress code and opt for satin gloves, which she paired with her giant Oscar de la Renta gown with his signature along the back. Taylor Swift stuck to the theme in a pale pink satin custom Oscar gown, as did Karen Elson in miles of pink satin Zac Posen. Suki Waterhouse had a 'You shall go to the ball moment' in blush Burberry ruffles, while Kendall Jenner was on theme in custom pink Topshop. You've got the idea - pink was the colour of the night.

With the 'White Tie and Decorations' theme we expected a sea of nipped in waists and blown out skirts, with minimalism not on the menu. But it looks like A Listers don't like a dress code - even if it's enforced by the mighty Anna Wintour.
The strapless column gown was a popular choice, led by Victoria Beckham who wore white strapless (you guessed it) Victoria Beckham. Rachel McAdams opted for a blush Ralph Lauren column gown, while Anne Hathway went for a red hot Calvin Klein Collection crop top and skirt.

Not all the stars were quite so simple, however. We come to Lupita Nyong'o who arguably gave us the biggest 'OMG moment' in her beaded flapper Prada cocktail dress. Last year Kim Kardashian almost broke the internet thanks to her floral Givenchy dress avec matching gloves, but she made up for it this year in blue strapless Lanvin with thigh-high slit.

Beyonce is always the queen of the Met Gala, and this year was no exception. She wore a black beaded Givenchy gown with a beaded veil and dark wine lips. She even walked the red carpet with a dress assistant who made sure the gown looked flawless at all times.

The red carpet this year was a Stella McCartney take-over, as she dressed* the* MET set. Rihanna wore a white Stella skirt and crop top, while Cara Delevingne wore white trousers and a black crop top. The designer also dressed Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon in pink gowns avec trains.

Crop tops might not scream white tie, but Emma Stone also flashed the abs in a pink Thakoon crop top with a wrap hot pink skirt with thigh slit. Turns out rib-flashing was the unexpected trend of the night.
