We all remember our first backpack, probably because it was our very first bag – the one that kept us company on those long walks to school.
Now, thanks to Burberry, it's time to dig it out again – or maybe, buy a new one (err... we mean, definitely buy a new one) because backpacks are back.
Oh. Yeah.
First things first, what brought on this revival? Well, the moment that nylon, leather, monogrammed number strutted its stuff down Burberry's catwalk of SS16, that's what.
And ever since then we've been seeing it everywhere – like that one embossed with 'SW' (Suki Waterhouse), and 'CJD' (Cara Delevingne), and let's not forget 'TS' (Taylor Swift)...
It's not just Burberry that are back onboard this trend, however – plenty of other designers have had the same idea. Like Saint Laurent by Heidi Slimane with their Festival Backpack, for instance. Not only is it aesthetically the epitome of Seventies cool – THAT FRINGING – but its very name tells us something else about it too; namely how versatile it is...
...For as we all know, the backpack is pavement-worthy, but as the word 'festival' indicates, it can be muddy field-worthy too. (Not that we'd ever be so cavalier as to take our beloved Saint Laurent to Glasto but, you know, we always could...)
So you see, backpacks suit almost any occasion. And if you've yet to get back in with them, shop our edit of this season's best, below.
