We are living in the era of the collaboration. We have been for some time, really, but considering that April 2024 is bringing us Simone Rocha's pretty take on Crocs, a designer collection at H&M and the blockbuster Victoria Beckham x Mango, it's safe to say that it's all happening this month. Another partnership worth your attention? It comes courtesy of & Other Stories and Susan Fang, the designer who's always a hit at London Fashion Week with her fantastical designs full of joy and imagination.
Born in China and raised in Canada, the US and the UK, Fang established her eponymous label in 2017, having graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins. She says her multi-cultural upbringing has influenced and encouraged her work: 'Living in various cities across the world exposed me to many cultural differences,' she says. 'I experienced a lot of misunderstandings or constantly felt misunderstood. That experience of cultural differences is what sparked my love for fashion as a language. I will always see fashion a means to connect with others.'
For her first foray onto the high street, Fang has stayed true to her love of nature-inspired designs, producing 11 pieces from delicate organza dresses to 3D flower accessories and bejewelled sandals. The hero piece, though, is the appliquéd flower dress, to which Fang refers as her 'treasure' dress. 'It draws inspiration from my deep love for trees. The flower print is painted by my mother, and it feels like you’re floating in organza flowers as you walk. We decided to make the dress strapless and more minimal, and I think it’s perfect for any grand event as well as for daily wear. It’s actually a very effortless floating-flower-petals dress.'
Available now, the collection is still mostly in stock, although some pieces are selling incredibly quickly. So, shop your favourites now while you still can. Your summer wardrobe will thank you.
Thanks to & Other Stories, Susan Fang's dreamworld has been revealed to a brand new audience.
