Sweden, you can keep your flat-pack furniture, your meatballs and your preternaturally beautiful population. The only thing we need from you is & Other Stories. No idea what we’re talking about? Prepare for very good news. It’s the high street brand that still seems to be under-the-radar, despite having 13 stores across the UK, and it’ll sort all your summer dressing woes.
It’s part of the H&M family of eight brands. Where COS is great for elevated basics and Weekday works for your slightly grungier cool-girl, & Other Stories majors in on-trend yet wearable clothes. Think spaghetti-strap sandals that lace around the ankles, frilly tiered dresses and sweet blossom prints. Having said that, it also seems to do a brisk business in the kind of utilitarian basics that are so popular right now. Belted safari jackets, plenty of banging boilersuits, sleek cargo pants – you get the picture.
We also love the fact that the brand cares about the planet - and tries to encourage customers to feel the same. Its recycling initiative means you can fill a bag with any textiles – from any brands, not just & Other Stories – and drop it in-store in exchange for a voucher giving you 10 per cent off future purchases. It also collaborates with sustainably-minded designers. Mia Larsson designed a clothing and jewellery capsule for the brand earlier this year, with pieces made out of oyster shells from a seafood restaurant and recycled silver.
