The frenzy is over as H&M stores across the world have been stripped of stock – specifically the sports inspired collection tailored by Balenciaga head honcho Alexander Wang. The annual H&M designer collaboration has become a calendar event for fashion insiders and fans alike and has once again dedication unlike any other shopping event. Here we provide some closure on the collection with an epilogue to proceedings….
H&M’s Website Crashes
It is perhaps little wonder that the overwhelming demand for Wang’s logo’d leggings and ninja-look outerwear managed to crash the H&M site yesterday. Before the collection even managed to go live for its' US release at 10 am EST, the site had gone down due to traffic.
The eBay Conversion
Even before the crash, pieces – presumably purchased at preview shopping events for VIPs – had made their way on to eBay and were marked up to three times the original retail price. With reports of customers dropping thousands of pounds at a time and shoppers spotted loaded with multiple bags it was again little surprise that so much stock has made it on to the resale site.
Men REALLY love Alexander Wang
From anecdotal reports both sides of the Atlantic, it was the menswear collection that sold out quickest instore. At the London preview event, the men’s floor was significantly more frenzied that the women's and Fashionista.com reportsthat menswear completely sold out at one New York store in five minutes. While multiple pieces of the womenswear collection are still available online, only one menswear boot has survived the onslaught.
The Trophy Pieces
The scuba sweaters, the perforated t-shirt dress and leather backpack were all instant sell outs while some of the higher priced leather pieces are still available to buy. It's not just enough to get a piece of the collection – the most wanted items earn the dedicated shopper most fashion kudos.
