We can't help but notice trainers aren't just having a moment, they ARE the moment. Worn dressed-up and dressed-down on every third Fashion Editor at the shows (even on the FROW), they've appeared in every guise possible: wedged, slip-on, neon and cut-out. And lest we forget their debut on the catwalk at the Chanel Couture Spring Summer 2014 show last week, which may be the final sign from the fashion gods that sneakers are here to stay.
Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci has already displayed a passion for the informal footwear. His star-studded hi-tops and velcro strapped sneakers have been feverishly street-snapped. But this time, the designer has gone directly to the source andcollaborated with sports supremos Nike. The brand's ubiquitous basketball classic, the Air Force 1, has been laying a little lower in the wake of huge popularity for both the Air Max and the Free Run, but with Adidas' hugely-hyped relaunch of their classic Stan Smith, we sense an important return to the timeless pieces.

“The shoe is universal yet somehow very personal,” says Tisci. “I travel all over the world, and I see people wearing the Air Force 1, and they wear it in so many different ways. And so I was thinking, what is the essence of the Air Force 1? And how do I take that essence and make my own statement? ... For me the Air Force 1 is not about gender, it’s not about a particular city, nor is it about a certain style. The community decides. It’s democratic. It’s love.”
The designer certainly has made his own statement with the range of four pieces: The Lo-Top, The Mid, The Hi and last but certainly not least, the knee-high. Expect to see the black leather lace-up on fashionistas across the globe from Spring, but for now, let's take a closer look at that delicious '70s palette of vivid orange, cracked brown leather, lemon, sky blue and grey.
