Its back to the 90s for today’s shopping fix. Fashion has recently taken a throwback to the decade of dungarees, graphic tees and high top trainers. So what better inspiration then to pay homage to our favourite 90's sitcom,* The Fresh Prince of Bel Air? *The retro TV show saw a huge spike in Google searches this week - we're guessing thanks to Will Smith's AH-mazing performance of the theme tune on Graham Norton.
From It girl Hilary Banks’ love of skirt suits and cropped, boxy jackets to preppy Charlton’s geek chic look, the sitcom showcased a host of 90s looks. Of course it also shone a spotlight on Will Smith – whose FPOBA character perfectly defines the era’s flamboyantly baggy look – hello MC Hammer pants! Whatever your style preference, the '90s had a statement style to suit your personality.
A-Listers like Rihanna and Rita Ora have revelled in the resurgence of this trend. Sporting more than just one pair of Nike Jordan’s, Rihanna has rarely been seen spotted without a crop top, jumpsuit or bomber jacket to finish off her 90’s hip hop look.
From high street to high end this season has seen many references to the '90s pop culture. This time around however, it has a grown up luxe feel. Versace’s Versus collection, for example, brought us a classic '90s bomber jacket with a retro chain print while high street stores like American Apparel have nailed the baggy tee laid-back look. Whether your budget stretches to the catwalk or it’s limited to the high street, you can find retro prints, neon fabrics and cool sneakers to keep you looking jazzier than Jazzy Jeff.
If you chucked out your old scrunchies and spandex back in 1999, flick through our gallery of the best 90’s inspired pieces and you’ll be looking fresher then the Prince of Bel Air…
