As the nights are drawing in and the temperatures are dropping, we're finding ourselves packing away our flimsier summer layers in favour of something a little more substantial: thick scarves, woolly jumpers and anything in a chunky cable knit.

Just in time for the colder weather, the Woolmark Company has partnered with US heritage brand Woolrich John Rich & Bros to showcase a photo exhibition which celebrates the tradition of wool and looks to the future, too.

Hosted in Woolrich's flagship store on Soho's Brewer Street for one night only, The Woolrich Mill: Tradition and Future of Wool features the work of Jackie Nickerson, who has taken photos of the oldest woolen mills in the US, detailing everything from the intricacy of the old machinery and looms, to the historical archives.

As part of this collaboration, Woolrich has teamed up with the Woolmark Company to create a special edition of the label's iconic arctic parka, made in high-performance fabric that resists water and wind and is breathable, too.

The American brand began back in 1830 with a woollen mill in Pennsylvania, which is now the oldest manufacturing company still in business in the United States.

The exhibition opened at the Woolrich store in Milan earlier this month; after appearing at the London store today, it will travel to Berlin, Amsterdam, New York and Tokyo.
