How do you wear your shirt? If buttoned up and neatly tucked in is the answer then – and this is about to get awkward – passé is the only word that springs to mind. Ok, ok, that’s a bit extreme. A classic, smartly worn Oxford still cuts the mustard, but there’s a growing creative crowd who are experimenting in every which way possible with this wardrobe staple and it’s certainly worth paying attention if you A.) like a styling challenge and B.) want to inject a wardrobe refresh without getting your wallet involved.

A few years ago the demi tuck arrived courtesy of the Parisian contingent. Emmanuelle Alt and co. showcased the art of the half tucked-in shirt with skinny jeans and the done-undone ratio seized a fashion nation. Then came the buy-it-over-sized-and-push-it-off-your-shoulders brigade. We fondly recall a moment in 2014 when Russian beauty Natasha Goldenberg did it best with a jumbo blue men’s shirt and a cluster of Chanel pearls around her neck.

Talking of simple blue shirts, this one piece has steadily become the insider’s go-to when it comes to dressing down a fancy pair of pants or a statement skirt. Consider it a new kind of casual tee replacement - it can bring just laid back vibes as easily as a jersey crew neck.

But shirt about to get real cray, peeps. On the streets of New York and London Fashion Week girls have been wearing them back to front (there’s something about that high collar that’s surprisingly sexy with an open unbuttoned back) knotted all over and even worn extra long as a layering tool over jeans or peeking out from under a skirt.
