STOP the press. There's an actual real life wearable item being hailed as the next big fashiony thing. The roll neck. Yep, you heard me. The roll neck is all over the NYC catwalks right now, as New York Fashion Week is into its 5th day. We're seeing every incarnation of the roll neck trotting down the runways - from the chunky, studded thick knits seen at Alexander Wang to Victoria Beckham's voluminous sleeved styles, via Opening Ceremony's ruffled version.
Check out all the ways you probs haven't thought of wearing a roll neck yet...
**Under A Cardi/Tunic **
It's too cold to wear just a shirt or a tunic - instead pop a roll neck underneath. This prim and proper tunic-coat looks great worn over this flouncey necked roll neck from the Opening Ceremony's AW15 show. If you've got a pea coat, or a bomber jacket, then fasten right up over a base top with a roll neck - they're made super fine as they're intended to go under other stuff and will also keep you super warm. You can ever wear over a shirt if you buy a light, stretchy one.
With Some Cropped Work Troussers
Heavy jumpers often feel too slouchy for work, but when paired with a midi length smart troussers, this chunky roll knit from the Tibi show looks really sophis. Fluffy shoes optional.
Covered In Studs
Wang smothered his roll neck in studs, adding a harder edge to your standard turtle neck knit.
With Mega Long Sleeves
Roll necks don't have to be skin tight, as Mrs Beckham proved to us yesterday with her flouncy sleeved knits. So much more exciting than your standard skinny version. Tip - if you're wearing a tight one and have big boobs then wear a sports bra underneath to smooth out your silhouette and avoid that 'Hello Matron' look.
Try A Sexy Slit
Prabal Garung paired inches deep knitted roll necks with slits almost as high as your hoo ha. Give it another couple of weeks and it will probs be warm enough for you to give this one a go on a Saturday night.
