The clocks change today, which means one thing: it’s officially winter. Now that we’ve swapped denim jackets for duvet coats and bare legs for woolly tights, the next big switch-up comes in the guise of footwear. Like Hunter wellies are to festivals, a pair tried-and-tested winter boots are both sensible and stylish when the cold sets in. Though trends come and go – remember when Moon Boots were all the rage circa ’08?! – there is one shoe shape everyone can agree has everlasting coolness: knee-high boots. Unlike other cold-weather shoe shapes, knee–highs never go out of fashion as they are less tricky than their over-the-knee sisters and more sensible than ankle-grazers. That said, according to Instagram they are having a moment right now.
1. Y’all Know Cowgirls Don’t Wear Cowboy Boots
Who knew a cotton dress and chunky chocolate leather boots could look so cute with an evening bag? Emily Ratajakowsk, of course.
2. Wear Them Like You’re Landed Gentry Out On A Country Ramble
Speak with a plummy accent and wrap up in a check blazer to give the finishing touches to your brown riding boots.
3. Are You Yeti For These Boots?
When I first saw these Yves Saint Laurent boots on the catwalk, it made me think of those girls wearing teeny hot-pants on stilts that try and lure you into seedy Magaluf nightclubs. But, in the hands of Rihanna, I’m kinda into this flamingo footwear. All it took was a heap of Badgalriri attitude and a t-shirt dress to change my mind.
4. Look What You Made Me Do
Jordyn Woods brings sexi back without showing an inch of skin, well her own that is, bu wearing (hopefully faux) snakeskin boots and a midi denim skirt.
5. Put The Boot In
OG blogger Jane Aldridge Who goes by the moniker @seaofshoes obviously knows her way around a pair of boots. Case in point these glorious cognac knee-highs. I like the way she’s not afraid of swamping her silhouette with soft layers, like that of a flowing skirt and cashmere knit. Looks cosy AF.
