You know those summer days when your hair balloons in the humidity and busses drip like a sweating Coke can? When the world feels like a steam room and wearing any layers is instantly regrettable, think: ‘what would Rihanna do?’

In her latest video, Wild Thoughts, which features Bryson Tiller, DJ Khaled and the metallic twang of Santana’s Maria Maria, she is a sartorial study in mastering balmy beauty.

The video opens with Rihanna stalking the dusk of a hot and sticky Miami night dressed in a translucent vintage Betsy Johnson top, Balenciaga leggings, a Versace belt, Lynn Ban gold earrings, Karen Walker aviators and a Gucci scarf wrapped around her head.

A few beats later, with mussed-up waves, a lashing of red matte lipstick and aquamarine flicked eyeshadow she seduces in a turquoise Alberta Ferretti dress and Manolo Blahnik gladiator heels. Dancing on a rooftop, she finishes her fashion tryptic in a Matthew Adams Dolan’s lemon shirt and matching cargo trousers. Seemingly, sheer, loose layers and oversized tailoring with statement jewellery is this BadGal’s answer to summer.

Rihanna’s hairstylist Yusef Williams told The Cut that he uses Miss Jessie’s Jelly Soft Curls on RiRi’s bob and then Oribe’s Curl Control Cream. The look is bouncy and soft, but frizz-free.

Calling on Isabella Rossellini in David Lynch's Blue Velvet for inspiration, Rihanna’s make-up dominates the video. Her crimson pout and dramatic eyeshadow add drama to her dewy skin. Fingers crossed this is a hint at what Rihanna’s upcoming Fenty Beauty line will look like.
