Whenever I thought about Warehouse, it was synonymous with sensible… well, that’s a euphemism. What I mean is boring. Sorry Warehouse, I thought you were boring.
Please note the use of past tense. This season, Warehouse’s new creative director Alasdhair Willis and designer Emma Cook totally reimagined the iconic British brand, and bowled us over with on-trend, but not in-your-face clothes in striking mustards, berries and skin-brightening lilacs.
But Warehouse clothing also conjures up thoughts of thin, leggy, ultra-profesh clean-cut women, and, well, they haven’t gone off brand there. So, purely for curiosity’s sake, we scoped the Argyll Street store to see if any pieces could suit petite(-er), curvier women - and we actually found some great pieces. It took some time (and included a grey jumper I couldn't fit over my head. Unless you have a small head, proceed with caution), but still.
Here were some of the stand-outs for anyone under 5 ft 3.
LOOK 1: The Blouse-Under-Shirt Combo
The ribbed tunic 'top' (I'm calling it a dress) is an amazing layering piece as it hides lumps and bumps. Layered over pleated blouse with floaty sleeves, I feel like Principal Roz Mullins from School of Rock: serious, with a secret rock and roll past.
Blouse, £35
Top (No, it's a Dress), £39
LOOK 2: The ‘Oooohh’ Lilac Jumper
The kind of jumper that shines like a beacon at the end of the store, sending you subliminal messages, like: ‘You’re so lucky to have found me!’ Find it. Own it. Feel like your neck is longer than it actually is.
Jumper, £55
LOOK 3: The Ruffle Jumper For Anyone With Boobs
If you’re busty, but still busting for this feminine feature trend, look no further.
Jumper, £39
LOOK 4: All The Sleeves
The top that’s tighter where it counts, but statement in the sleeves, so you can tuck it in without fear of bunching.
Top, £35
LOOK 5: The Jumper-Blouse Hybrid
Definitely channelling a berry-coloured dandy pirate in this breezy, sheer-sleeved jumper that’s as comfy as a sweatshirt, sans the sweat.
Jumper, £45
LOOK 6: Bardot’s Not Going Anywhere
Find Bardots always bounce off your shoulder, giving you less shoulder cleavage and more clown collar vibes? Long sleeves are where it’s at - and this one’s as comfy as pajamas.
Bardot Top, £32
Jeans, Were £49 now £39.20
