You wouldn't perhaps have guessed that the sight of a grown woman in what are supposed to be child's pyjamas, designed to look like a comic strip, would send other grown adults into a frenzy. But such is the cult of Killing Eve, now in its second season. Ever since Villanelle, the psychopathic assassin (played so brilliantly by Jodie Comer) appeared on our screens in a pink Molly Goddard dress, the character's costumes have been every bit as interesting as the plot. From a pink Rosie Assoulin shirt to Christian Lacroix earrings, season two isn't disappointing, either. But the pyjamas were somewhat of a surprise, even for the designers of the fabric from which they were made.
The fabric, produced by Funkifabrics, was apparently purchased by the BBC like any old customer. In fact, speaking to The Independent, Helen Kaitiff, sales director at Funkifabrics said that they were completely unaware the BBC had even bought the fabric to use in the show until they saw photographs on social media.
Villanelle is supposed to have taken a child's pyjamas to wear, hence the reason they've been designed to look too short. If you fancy making your own, presumably well-fitting pair, you can buy the fabric – called Comic Bubble Blue/ Silver Galaxy – for £26 per metre.
There is some slightly more glamorous nightwear worn by Villanelle in the most recent series of Killing Eve, however, in the form of a tiger print robe designed by Olivia von Halle. While that particular print has sold out, there are others available, from chameleons to bright stripes.
In honour of everybody's favourite psychopath, we've collated some of the best pyjamas available. And don't worry – you won't have to make them yourself.
