While Victoria Beckham may have been roaming backstage at her New York Fashion Week show today in blue jeans and a white tee but, her spring collection is sweetly feminine. For next season, Beckham has deigned smart as sexy and suiting as louche.

The show flowed effortlessly from a pastels fairy tale with oversized mannish shirts tucked into sheer pencil skirts to strong tailored suiting in monochrome and scarlet. Though the looks were enough to keep Brooklyn (with camera) and David Beckham who sat next to the new Vogue editor Edward Enniful interested, these weren’t showstoppers. Victoria Beckham delivered wearable separates. Pleated midi skirts and flowing shirt dresses were as covetable as the high neck ruffled collars that littered the collection.

The models' make-up and hair were in keeping with a low-key aesthetic sweeping backstage at NYFW. Beckham's models wore their hair centre-parted and clean off their faces, and their skin was presented glossy with an I-just-woke-up-like-this effortlessness.

Without a doubt, the accessories were one of the highlights of the collection. Sparkly pumps made many double-take whether they were really watching a Victoria Beckham show. But, it was these girlish, mood-lifting touches that made this feel like a new, less sombre era for Beckham’s brand.
