It's interesting to see how Victoria Beckham's once strict silhouettes have loosened up over the years. This season felt more relaxed than ever - and it's thanks to an influence of surf culture.
Whether Victoria herself is partial to riding a wave we couldn't possibly say, but the seriously chilled vibes that come with this particular outdoorsy lifestyle could be keenly felt throughout this happy collection. Making a clean break from the city - or at least mentally - VB's 'fresh and liberating' new approacb included sporty, bouncy knit dresses bobbed around flatform sandals or slip on, backless loafers, boxy zip-up jackets paired with low slung pleated skirts that could be whipped off as you run toward the sea shore.
Gnarly checks swam up against crashing wave motifs (which felt like they had a distinctly - and surprising - 1980s pop to them in primary bright colors) and graphic hibiscus florals. Fluted hems on tops, culottes and skirts added further romantic swishiness to this already easy line up. The silhouette was loose and particularly breezy were the crinkled satin dresses that just hung off the body - like they'd been dried in the sun after a day well spent on the beach.
There was something authentically effortless about every element involved here. Even VB's usually slicker-ready bags were given a big dose of Cali cool, in slouchy mini, suede colour block x-body styles or the half moon holdalls that you could shove all of the day trip's essentials into.
'Clothes to be interpreted by the individual and worn with freedom and a carefree attitude,' read Victoria's shownotes. Mrs Beckham has always been the very epitome of polish, but let's not forget, this is a woman who actually does casual very well and understands that you the consumer wants to as well. She even looks good heading to those SoulCycle sessions with husband David (who was of course centre front row next to Anna Winton and his son Brooklyn) so consider the challenge accepted. Surf (style) school, here we come.
