Victoria Beckham in her new store
Everyone’s favourite Spice Girl turned fashion mogul, Victoria Beckham, marks another milestone on her fashion ascent today with the opening of her first ever store on Dover Street, Mayfair. And while fans (and hubby David) flocked to see her wares across the majestic three-floor store this morning, we caught up with the lady herself last week as she put the finishing touches on her shiny new store.

Complete with impressive polished concrete flooring, a huge staircase and endless glass and mirrors, the store is a minimalist monument to luxury retail. The store is also technically adept with a huge screen, currently projecting Victoria’s last show and iPads replacing tills. Read on below to hear Victoria’s top 5 favourite things about her first stand alone store. Congratulations, VB!
1. A Moveable Store
‘I want to have fun with the space and make sure that nothing felt static. So everything can be changed around. On the ground floor, all the shelves which display the bags go back into the wall so we can really have fun with the way we merchandise everything. All the rails and can be moved we’ve got tracks everywhere so we can put as much product as we want out but we can also move everything out and make a space for presentations, shows, lunches, dinners – whatever it might be – really, really play with space. Downstairs is going to be continually changing, there are so many things we can do there – whether its where I put the shoes – as I’ve just introduced them into ready to wear – maybe I showcase an artist that I’m feeling particularly passionate about.’

2. The Signatures
‘From the blonde gold double V zigzag rails to the chains - larger versions of what we’ve been using on the handbags [which are used to hand pieces upstairs] we’ve tried really hard to create signatures. I wanted everything to look luxurious, but really feel like ‘me’. We’ve used American walnut – which I think feels very luxurious mixed with the bottle green glass. I think it adds a warmth – I wanted the space to feel minimal and conceptual but I also wanted it to feel welcoming. I don’t want people to feel scared to come in – everybody should feel welcome to come in.’

3. The Changing Rooms
‘All of the changing rooms are really roomy – and have really flattering lighting. On the lower ground floor we have an enormous personal shopping space which is where I will be doing personal appointments. I’m going to be hands on and be here as much as I can be - I’m really proud of what I’ve created with my team.’

4. The Architect
‘When we first found this place it was three floors, it was quite closed in – to be honest we didn’t really know how big the space was until we ripped everything out. I had this idea – lets knock through all three floors and just create – to be able to see the top floor from the ground, the ground from the top. We worked very closely with Farshid Moussavi – an incredible architect – she’s never worked on a retail space before. She’s conceptual and I wanted an architect who would collaborate with me as opposed to coming to me with set ideas.’
5. The Staff

‘Years ago I worked in a bridal shop. I can tell you I certainly didn’t have the qualifications or experience that the people working in this shop have to have. I want them to be very experienced, passionate about retail, good with people. Just warm people that believe in my brand and appreciate luxury, but also know exactly what they are talking about.’
