As the summer draws to a close and the darker evenings creep in, it can only mean one thing. Film season is upon us. And this week the media attention is scrambling to the shores of Venice for the launch of the world’s oldest film festival.
Ever since the event was founded in 1932, Venice Film Festival has been notorious for its Italian finesse, romantic scenes and of course, the best dressed. And this year has been no exception.
The first day saw the premiere of highly anticipated La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. And the dazzling musical met unanimous praise, launching what shall be a rather successful year in the film sphere.
Gemma Arterton was next to land in Venice donning blue flared jeans and a Breton top, channelling sweet ‘70s vibes. Whilst model of the moment Barbara Palvin undoubtedly stole the sartorial spotlight in a floral chiffon dress by Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini.
Alicia Vikander donned a custom Louis Vuitton floral dress finished with Bulgari jewels for the premiere of The Light Between Oceans.
Whilst Dakota Fanning blew us all away last weekend with a mermaid-esque iridescent dress by Miu Miu to the premiere of Brimstone.
Model Suki Waterhouse also opted for a whimsical look in a pink sequinned gown by Dolce and Gabbana.
Yesterday saw the premiere of Planetarium, starring Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp. The festival was the perfect opportunity for Natalie to announce her second pregnancy and needless to say, she did so in style.
So in celebration of the whimsical Italian scenes, impending films and influx of upcoming film stars, we take a look at the best dressed from the 73rd Venice Film Festival so far:
