Happy payday, party people! We're so happy that dollar day has arrived that we're only speaking in alliteration, here at The Debrief HQ. Well, not quite. But one thing we are speaking is the language of Isabel Marant. If there was any designer label worthy of blowing the entire disposable part of your monthly salary on, it would be hers – and specifically, the Kade Quilted Silk-Jacquard Jacket, that's* *£700, at Net-a-Porter.

Yeah, yeah – we know what you're thinking. £700. On a pink jacket. But allow us to introduce you to our new franchise, Payday Persuasion, where we show you how to work your new investment purchase into four key looks. Because as we well know, if you're going to spend that kind of money on a piece of outerwear, then you need it to work not just with the one weird-fitting dress that never actually leaves your closet, but the 487 other items in your sartorial roster. And if our persuasion doesn't work… well, at least you might find a few styling tips in here along the way.

Heavy Metal

Neon pink goes excellently with a liquid silver camisole and matching midi skirt. Swishy ladylikism (our new word) meets edgy futurism with this metallic co-ord. Put it with some snakeskin sandals to stave off the cutesiness and wear to a bonafide party with a bonafide party dresscode.

Foil Patchwork Vest, £115 and Daisy Foil Skirt, £175 both Whistles, Richee Asymmetric Sandals, £62 Topshop.

Boho Lite

No summer is complete without a Alexa-ish floaty white cheesecloth dress that for all intents and purposes, when the sun has gone down, is a Victorian nightgown. This super-short Topshop dress is actually a nightgown, but with this silky jacket and a tropical clutch bag, it's less 'Horlicks before bed' and more 'Kefalonia here I come.'

Cheesecloth Nightshirt, £32, Topshop, Leather Bio Sandals With Thin Straps, £59.99, Zara, Mokulua Pouch, £40.58, Samudra at Shopbop.

Think Pink

Double pinkmore than works when the saccharine middling pink shades like bubblegum and carnation are left out of the equation. The neon pink offsets the dark berry of the silk dress. And gold mules add the necessary edge.

Mulberry Silk Sleevess Dress, £48, & Other Stories, Shiny Leather High Heel Mules, £59.99, Zara.

Get Shorty

Forget skirts, shorts are the shit this summer. From midi culottes to frayed denim knee-length, to cycling shorts (yes, cycling shorts) it's about the short trouser. Try a pair of cycling shorts with lace trim to make them a bit less terrifying and pair with a stripy button-down shirt, black denim shirt and chunky loafers for a schoolish vibe. With the natty pink jacket bringing the whole look up to speed, you'll have a directional new look in no time.

Striped Shirt, £30 (available in store) and Medina Platforms, £40, both Monki, Lace Trim Cycling Shorts, £25, B-Side by Walé Lace at Urban Outfitters, Black Denim Shirt, £40, Topshop Boutique.
