Universal Standard is well known for promoting inclusivity and its own joyful approach to fashion. The recent collaboration with Rodarte, for example, proved that luxury fashion can be both affordable and inclusive, with styles modeled on Universal Standard's usual range of models, all with different body shapes. While the brand has always strived to ensure that its clothes are available in a vast range of sizes, it has now made absolutely everything in sizes 00-40, the UK equivalent of which is sizes 2-42.
In a mission statement published on its website, Universal Standard wrote: "Today, we’re the world’s most inclusive fashion brand. Tomorrow, we want to change that... There’s nothing more important to US than making sure all women are included and seen, so that while notions of 'us' and 'them' become extinct, definitions of beauty evolve."
Not only will every product be available in such a wide range of sizes, you can also see them all modeled on women who actually represent your size, too. There is now a function on the website called "See Your Size", which allows you to select pictures of models in your chosen piece that's truly in your size. For too long, women have been presented with only one, extremely slim body type. By representing all different sizes, Universal Standard is really setting an example to the rest of the fashion industry.
In fact, encouraging other brands to follow suit is part of Universal Standard's mission statement. "Today, we’re committing to create the change we want to see in the world, so that access for all doesn’t end with US. We will work to empower the industry to embrace inclusion. We will work to build the future with partners who see it like we do. We will be the catalysts that spark the next fashion revolution. That’s true FASHION FREEDOM."
