COS: the land of Scandinavian minimalism. The land of boxy tailoring and monochrome basics – and the occasional piece of avant-garde jazziness. Also particularly good for chunky ’90s-style footwear like these black peep-toe platforms, which I sadly couldn’t photograph because you can’t take shoes into the changing room.
But here’s the Autumn winners I could – and did – take into store for today’s Changing Room Selfies.

The sweater dress

This is so Michael Kors. Maybe I am Michael Kors. It’s the definition of an easy one-piece, this is. Pair it with stilettos and you’ll look very Angelina Jolie; with trainers and you’ll feel like a baby duckling. A super-street baby duckling.

The double shirt co-ord

COS is an actual stable of white shirts, in all variations. As originally seen on our forward-thinking Creative Editor, a shirt (on top) worn with a shirt (as a skirt) is the new way to double front, shirtily speaking. Simply do the buttons half-way up and tie the arms around the waist of your other shirt worn normally. Alternatively, here are two very nice white shirts that you can just wear separately – I like the textured pattern on the collar of this sleeveless one.

The Arty Shift

Like Zara’s Celine-esque brushstroke blouse, this boldly coloured sweater/shift dress sticks out from the sea of pared backness. Would look excellent with orange lipstick and mules.
The shirt suit

The weather’s not quite cold enough for a full blown suit – but have you met the shirt suit? No, I hadn’t before, either. Kind of adore the peter pan collar on this checkered one, even if I am not totally convinced I can pull this off.
Houndstooth Shirt, £55, available in store and Houndstooth Wool Trousers, £69
The plunging silk blouse

I can’t pretend this will work with a big bra, but if you are modest of breast then the plunging silk blouse is pretty much the easiest, sexiest piece out there. I’m a big fan – and this is a really good one.
The Downton-on-the-sea look

I don’t even watch Downton, but this is Downton lite, no? The fit and flare of this dress makes it the ideal business/cocktails/funeral (all three? Yes, all three) dress. I’ve added a little detachable scalloped collar underneath, for interest. COS are big on detachable collars. Dead useful, they are – to instantly Alexa-ify your outfit.
Fitted Cotton Dress, £69, and Rounded Collar Mock Shirt, £29
