I'm determined that freezing weather is not going to determine my Christmas outfit choices this season - especially not when the usual festive sequins come in the form of hooded mini dresses, wide leg jumpsuits and embellished camo mini skirts aka some super special stuff from ASOS. Avoid flirting with hypothermia/the flu by opting for a faux fur cover up, but be ready to ditch it as soon as you arrive, because these party looks are worth it...
1. The Jumpsuit
I love jumpsuits (apart from when I need the loo), and especially this one. The fit on my straight frame does better for me than a bodycon dress, and the cut-out sides and back add some slight peek-a-boo action. Plus, the culotte-like shape of the bottom half means that tall girls can wear as a crop, and petites can wear as full length. Winning!
Jumpsuit, £60
Heeled Sandals, £70
2. The Sparkly Top
If getting changed at the office for after work festive socialising is your thing, then find yourself a super sparkly embellished top like this one. It comes with the seal of approval from female colleagues (bar that one who never gives a compliment), and thrown over the black trousers (or in my case faux leather trousers) that you were already wearing, gives you a super quick turnaround. Swap a predictable gold thin strap heel for these hardcore silver pointed ones and you’re good to go.
Sequin Top, £70
Trousers, £35
Heels, £45
3. The Maxi Dress
Avoid any LBD copycat moments in this Self Portrait maxi that will have you feeling like you won the best dressed competition (currently going on in your head) as soon as you slip it on. The sheer panels and punch-out detailing will guarantee many a money shot for Insta/fb/snapchat. Team with a simple lace up heel.
Dress, £280
Heels, £30
4. The Suit
Put any Christmas dress dilemmas to bed by rocking up in a suit. And not just any suit - a shimmery metallic cigarette pant one that didn’t look so great on the ASOS model on your screen but looks way better IRL. Team with a bralette & patent heels. Crazy dance floor moves a la Uma Thurman circa 1994’s Pulp Fiction meets Drake circa Hotline Bling are optional but highly recommended.
Trousers, £35
Jacket, £55
Heels, £38
5. The Mini Dress
This Piñata number is THAT dress. Yes its a little tinsel-like but 'tis the season to look a bit like a Christmas decoration without explanation. Pair with an equally bold shoe (gold ankle sock boot will do) and get ready to do what Andre 3000 once sang about by shaking-it-like-a-polaroid-picture to see this dress achieve its full potential.
Dress, £150
Boots, £45
6. The Mini Dress Take 2
Finally - a valid reason to get involved with the A V Robertson x ASOS BLACK collab comes via this 3d embellished beaut. Ticking all the boxes of being sassy, sparkly and a shift dress - I like the playful 60s vibe and the vibrant blue hue. Keep it simple by ditching any form of jewellery and wearing with a barely there heel.
Dress, £185
Sandals, £42
Socks, £4
