We Try On All The Nice Tops In H&M For Your Christmas Party So You Don’t Have To

Prepare yourselves, I’m about to drop the C word… Christmas is nearly here. The John Lewis Christmas advert is out, making us weep into our evening mug of tea, giving us that warm, fuzzy feeling. For most, this marks the start of the festive season. Before you know it those party invitations will be landing on your desk/floor/Facebook feed quicker than you can say inappropriate mistletoe use.

You need not fret, my friend… With this in mind, I’ve done all the digging and found the best going out tops H&M has to offer. Whether you’re off to your work Christmas party, a spontaneous drink after a stressful day or a night out with the girls, I’ve got it covered. And it doesn’t have to be all disco balls and sequins – everything in moderation, as they say…

1. The Knitted One

Let’s ease ourselves into this gently. If you’re anything like me, then you aren’t ready for full Christmas glitz yet (come mid December I’m sure I will feel very differently about this). In which case this jumper is perfect - super cosy and guaranteed to keep you warm if you’re out dancing in the streets at 3am after a wild New Year’s. Teamed with a more ‘going out’ skirt or dress, as seen in this outfit, this jumper is the perfect dressed down top.

Boots, £59.99

2. The Fringed One

In homage to Christmas trees is this amazing rich green top, which I’ve teamed with skinny jeans and patent boots. Deciding what to wear on a night out can be difficult enough without having to factor in the weather, and this is perfect for those evenings where you can’t afford to risk the unavoidable fake tan disaster of bare legs in the rain.

Top/Dress, £39.99

Jeans, £24.99

3. The Co-ord One

I absolutely love this top and skirt combo; the appliqué detailing is so intricate and feminine. This top is a really easy shape but perfect as a going out option with the added see-through detail. You could also just throw a jumper over this skirt and wear it to the office without looking too OTT. Plus, it’s black. I mean… what more could you want?!

4. The Pussy-Bow One

Possibly my favourite top, I loved this gorgeous pussy-bow blouse styled with a rivet detail leather skirt and patent boots. Personally, this would be my ‘go to’ evening outfit. Let’s face it; summer is over and for me it’s certainly best to keep those pasty arms covered. I love how feminine the pussy-bow detailing makes the whole outfit look, with the metallic dots giving a nice little nod to Christmas festivity.

5. The Sequin One

Grab your sunglasses, this one is only for the brave! We’re officially in full on Christmas territory here, although I’d advise that this is not one to wear to church on Christmas morning. The disco ball has landed! If you can’t go all out at this time of year, when on earth can you? I love this top so much - I just wish I was brave enough to leave the changing room with it on.

Top, £29.99

Fringed Skirt, £39.99

Boots, £59.99

6. The Sheer One

Does anyone else do the ‘cost-per-wear’ test to convince yourself to buy something? For me, this lovely blouse gets a big tick on that front - the sheerness makes it quite glam, but you could easily throw a cami underneath to wear it in the daytime. I love the high neck detail, tapping into the Victoriana trend reigning supreme on the high street at the moment. This would be the perfect Christmas meal top, suitably dressed up but equally comfortable.

Blouse, £29.99

Skirt, £79.99

7. The Lurex One

My last pick is this glittery little number, again featuring a long sleeve and high neck - a definite theme going on here! Maybe it’s down to the fact that when I hit the shops it was freezing cold and chucking it down with rain – not exactly encouragement to throw on a little sequinned vest! I love the maroon colour of this top; totally up my street and the perfect amount of Christmas-sy. Now grab your coat (because these tops won’t do without some layers), it’s time for a mulled wine…

Top, £29.99

Skirt, £79.99
