More than a few Changing Room Selfies in now, I've discovered what makes them ace. Visiting a big high street store is as soon as it opens it's doors at 9am (or 10am, depending on where you live) is a good start. Well lit changing rooms, as these were at H&M. (Though the 'wave' machine playing over the changing room speakers so insanely loudly that I mistakenly believed to be a hoover was interesting.) And a lot of good clothes.
For that reason, London's Oxford Circus 4-storey H&M branch is, with 3 floors worth of ladies clothes, didn't disappoint. The Divided Line is great, at H&M but it's their pricier (but still very cheap, in relative terms), unique pieces that make you feel like you're finding something that you could expect to buy via Net-A-Porter.
Here's the best in store right now:
A grungy cotton slip dress
I have been buying spaghetti strap dresses like this for over a decade. Come summer, I always look to slightly easier, more feminine pieces. This cotton dress is stretchy, comfortable and will look great with biker boots. At £7.99 you're not gonna worry if you trash it, either.
Jersey Dress, £7.99 available in store
A white denim midi skirt
A vaguely Amish silhouette this, although I can't imagine that their gathered skirts are made of denim, complete with a frayed hem. Thanks to hot denim duo Marques Almeida, frayed hemmed denim is the shit right now. This skirt is an excellent rendition.
Wide Denim Skirt, £34.99
A crochet LWD
Everyone needs at least one of these in their beach bag. I live in white cotton dresses whenever I go on holiday and this one has some nice little details like crochet panels on the bicep, a drawstring waist and a low scoop neck.
Lace Dress, £19.99
An all-black summer outfit
To anyone who thinks black is a winter colour, I actually prefer wearing black in summer. It looks great when you have a tan (which I don't). These black tailored trousers were some of the best I've found and I love it with a little black cropped cami. Got some Calvin Klein vibes about it.
Suit Trousers, £24.99 and Satin Top, £9.99
A work-friendly summer dress
It can be really hard to find summer dresses that aren't prim and proper - but are also suitable for work. This khaki dress with a pleated drop hem skirt is unique and would come in pretty damn useful, I imagine.
Maxi Dress, £24.99 available in store
Some bandana print and a revival of the tube skirt
I love bandana print. Seriously, love it. I was thrilled to find out that H&M has loads of it at the moment. Equally, I think elasticated tube skirts are pretty much amazing.* Don't* wear with heels to any smart funcshuns - bit Cavalli WAG - but do wear ironically with trainers and a t-shirt to the park/pub. Plus, at only £3.99 it's the same price as a juice. I'll take some summer leopard print over a carrot and kale any day, cheers.
Jersey Skirt, £3.99 and Printed Top, £12.99 available in store
