We Try On All The 90’s Gear In Urban Outfitters So You Don’t Have To

Another Monday, another in the series of Changing Room Selfies

Urban Outfitters is good at a lot of things - but it's their vintage (either actual vintage, or clothes with a vintage-infused aesthetic garb) thing that really sets them apart on the high street. And given that 90s grunge is now such a perennial trend, it seemed only fitting that I centred my Urban Outfitters fitting room experience around the decade. As with all Changing Room Selfies, this proved an expensive task and I left with a bag in hand. But I must also apologise for the proliferation of orange. This episode of #CRS has been Tango'd, what can I say.

First up: if it isn't already, the camisole's gonna be your best friend

This Pins & Needles Pin Dot Split Dress in Navy, £48, has had a lot of air time and for good reason. It's going to be your hardest working staple come summer, with some trainers and ankle socks, or sandals. Warning though: it's infinitely better with bare legs than tights, so try and hold off the opaques if possible.

Next lesson: A Floral dress + oversized denim jacket = easy maths

It's an oldie, but a goodie. A short grungy floral dress like this Kimchi Blue Floral Mesh Dress in Black, £45, paired with an oversized denim jacket (either in blue, or black like this Vintage Renewal Levi's Denim Jacket in Black, £55) is one of the few 'vintage' looks that work as well in city life as it does on a beach, or in a scrubby field at a festival.

Stussy is back - embrace it

You better believe it - with 90s logos having such a resurgence, the wonder-brand was never going to be far away. I'm not really a sporty kinda gal, but I like the monochrome mash-up that is this Stussy Football Muscle Tee, £47, with this split-front Pippa Lynn Mesh Tube Midi Skirt, £48.

A sporty tee with a leather skirt is still a legit silhouette

I wasn't sure the whole 'Adidas t-shirt with luxe skirt' thing was going to stick around, but it's still looking ace, isn't it? This vintage red Adidas tee (selection in store) has a nice strong colour palette to juxtapose with the A-Line Vintage Renewal Leather Miniskirt, £45.

Dungarees and short-sleeved naff shirts are good - though not necessarily together

This might have been an example of the severe 'orangeness' of this whole situation starting to get to me. This vintage pastel short-sleeved shirt (selection in store) would be off-beat cute with a pair of white skinny jeans (like Miranda Kerr meets Vince Vaughan), but I've overkilled it with these Vintage Renewall Dungaree Shorts, £38 - which again, would be super with just a ribbed polo neck underneath. Divide (the pieces) and conquer, I say.

'Mom' jeans and crop tops aren't just for summer

I resent the jeans look which makes me employ an Americanism, but that aside these 'Mom' jeans (Vintage Renewal 501 Jeans, £45 - rolled up, always rolled up) are great and very 'Eliza Cummings' with a Pins & Needles Crochet Trim Crop Top, £24, and a bomber jacket to make up for the flesh-flashing. I like the tartan lining of this vintage one (selection in store.)
