When every day is grey, cold, and most often wet, it's easy to get stuck in the same annual rut of wearing grey, navy and black - day after day after day - throughout winter. All in the desperate attempt to just get clothes on without suffering any more cold, lack of sleep or hassle than necessary. But trust us, this only heightens the grim misery of it being gross outside, and makes you feel even more rubbish than you need to. We have the answer: Play-Doh shades of colours will brighten your day.

Christian Dior, Preen, Prada and Valentino all sent zingy, almost fluorescent shades, of primary colours down their AW14 runways, and we were inspired. Take a look at these cool girls about town who will show you how to work the trend, and you will perk up in no time.
Choose A Bright Top Coat
How incredible does this tangerine coat look? The key is to keep the under layers simple - white, pale denim and neutrals will all make your choice of colour look even brighter. This is an easy way of making your ancient boyfriend jeans and a white roll neck feel like a completely new outfit. Thanks Leandra!
Wear Two Layers of The Same Mad Colour
Doubling up on the same neon shade adds double the effect. Pick accessories in clashing colours and use black as a good base for your top or bottom half. Of course, it helps if you can find a super arty wall with rainbow paint to stand in front of.
Choose Just One Bright Accessory
You don't have to wear traffic light shades all over to work the trend - if you're a devotee to dark colours, pick either a vibrant pair of shoes or a clutch bag to add just one colour boost. Faux fur is the fabric du jour, especially in bright colours. But be warned for AA15 sherling is coming.
**Try Some Tailoring **
This tomato red suit looks so great because it's paired with a muted greyish blue, retro T shirt, which contrasts with the electric colour jolt of red. If a whole red suit is a bit too 'look at me' for you, then get the same look with electric blue - it doesn't feel quite as scary. And SO much more exciting than a boring black version.
**Wear Two Tones **
If you're not keen on clashing two completely different brights (we know it can look teletubbies-esque if you don't nail it) then pick two tones of the same colour, like this turquoise and blue coat. We love the matching cobalt blue hat, and the contrasting coral lipstick. Don't forget nail polish either - another subtle way of adding an extra bright into the mix.
