Slinky, Silky Pieces You Can Wear Day Or Night

We’re totally A-OK with silks and satins when it’s sleepy time, but come daylight they get trickier to pull off. For starters, it doesn’t take much for them crinkle and crease, which is less than ideal when you have a day of meetings ahead of you. But, as the fashion set has fallen hard for its instant glam impact this season I wanted to see if it’s possible to get away with it for desk, dinner, dancing and beyond.

La La Land Lemon, Anyone?

ChangingRoomSelfiesSilk1

ASOS, High Neck Satin Bralet with Open Back £22; ASOS, Skirt in Satin with Ruffle Hem, £35

This skirt should come with a warning: not wind tunnel appropriate. One blow of the air conditioner and whoosh, everyone sees your knickers. But, in calm climates, this is the jolt of sunshine everyday needs.

In Full Bloom

H&M, Ribbed Polo-Neck Top, £4.99; Topshop, Silk Hanky Hem Print Skirt By Boutique, £120

Topshop deserves a round of applause, they have really outdone themselves with this floral skirt. No dowdy ditsies in sight, this is a mega-watt piece that will see you through spring to autumn. It nips me nicely in at the waist and has these flattering drapes that swish delightfully when I move.

Get A Leg up On The Hot Pink Trend

ASOS, Satin High Neck Shift Dress With Lace Inserts, £16.50

This is a bombshell of a number, and not just because it’s the colour of Marilyn Monroe’s dress in Gentleman Prefer Blondes (but that doesn’t hurt). The lace detailing makes it look more expensive than it is and the fit is quite flattering considering it’s a shift with a high neckline and long sleeves.

Rihanna Would Definitely Wear This

*ASOS, Cowl Neck Slip Dress, £25 *

When in doubt, channel RiRi. If she hasn’t already, she’d wear the heck out of a silk cowl neck nightie as a day dress. With her mind, I’ve put it with Converse and sunglasses ‘cos I don’t want to see the haters.

Dress Like A Highlighter Day

Topshop, Silk Twisted Cut Out Top by Boutique, £90

How do you feel about fluoro? It’s a topical question as Topshop has made a highlighter-bright lime green blouse that’s a real day-to-night item. It amplifies blue denim in the best possible way, case in point above.

A Shot Of Shocking Pink

H&M, Ribbed Polo-Neck Top, £4.99; Marques'Almeida, Check Cross-Body Bag, £480, Selfridges; ASOS WHITE, Split Detail Trousers With Satin Detail, £65

I wasn’t sure I could get away with this come hither, bedroom-ready fabric for work, but this outfit is making me reconsider that. The tailored trousers from ASOS are flattering, and the hot pink top is easy to style to be less revealing than it actually is. Consider, me convinced.
